Stephen W. Forbes, J.D. LL.M.; ERISA Attorney at Forbes Retirement Plan Consulting
Fiduciary Responsibilities
Stephen is an ERISA attorney and educator with 34 years of experience practicing and teaching in the retirement plan area. Recently, Mr. Forbes received ASPPA’s 2019 Educators Award. Stephen was vice president of SunGard in charge of Relius Education. He teaches seminars, conferences and webcasts on retirement plan compliance, design and correction. He also has drafted qualified plan, 403(b), 457(b), 409A and IRA documents. Mr. Forbes was the author of “The Form 5500 Filing Guide” and the co-author of “The Pension Library.” Mr. Forbes was a Tax Law Specialist at the IRS National Office (Employee Plans Division) where he trained IRS employees, wrote IRS Notices and Revenue Rulings and participated in several Treasury regulations committees.

Legislative & Regulatory Update: What's Happening in DC
John Walch focuses on all aspects of qualified and non-qualified benefit plans, including equity-based incentive and compensation plans, nonqualified deferred compensation plans, qualified profit sharing plans, 401(k) plans, ESOPs, pension and welfare benefit plans. For over 30 years, John has designed, drafted and obtained IRS approval of hundreds of qualified retirement plans. For plans facing disqualification or violations of ERISA, he has obtained compliance statements from the IRS's Voluntary Compliance Program and the Dept. of Labor’s Voluntary Fiduciary Compliance program. He also advises plan fiduciaries on operational issues involving QDROs, plan investment policies and fiduciary liability issues. John also has extensive experience obtaining individual prohibited transaction exemptions from the U.S. Department of Labor, defending IRS audits or DOL investigations of benefit plans and litigating ERISA cases. Additionally, John works with employers to design deferred compensation, stock option, stock appreciation right, phantom stock and other incentive plans. He advises businesses on issues related to parachute payments, COBRA, HIPAA and other benefit plan issues. When he is not helping plan sponsors and administrators efficiently run their benefit plans, John likes to hike Utah’s mountains, read spy thrillers, and yell at his television while watching college football games.

Taylor is the Managing Director of GBS Retire, a leading Retirement Plan Advisory Practice. With over 13 years of experience in the financial services industry, he specializes in retirement plan management. Working closely with plan sponsors and individuals, he strives to help clients pursue their goals and bring their financial plans full circle. As a third generation wealth advisor, he grew up in the world of investments and has a lifelong passion for finance. He is a Professional Plan Consultant™, Certified Health Savings Adviser, Certified Plan Fiduciary Advisor and received a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Utah State University. In 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 he was named as one of the Top Plan Advisors Under 40 in the country. Taylor was born & raised in Utah and married his high school sweetheart Kaitlin in 2008. Together they have two sons, Boston and Beckham and a daughter Audrey. In his spare time, he enjoys mountain biking, golf, movies, and spending time with family.
