Over the past several years, many employers have adopted multiple employer plans (MEPs) in order to reduce their retirement plan costs. The IRS and DOL have noticed the growing interest in MEPs and have issued specific rules to regulate this fast growing retirement plan type. The regulations have created different types of MEPs that apply to different employer situations. To facilitate “open MEP” arrangement, the SECURE Act created a new type of MEP – the Pooled Employer Plan (PEP). The new PEP will increase the number of employers who are eligible to participate in MEP type of arrangements. Among other requirements, the PEP must have a Pooled Plan Provider (PPP) that must accept certain responsibilities. In this webcast, we discuss the different types of MEPs as well as the requirements and benefits of each.
