Care to Be Aware; Suicide Awareness
The presentation will review current suicide statistics in the United States and common warning signs and risk factors for suicide. Dr. Kleinschmidt will also debunk common myths and provide resources for helping others and yourself.
Presented by Kristi Kleinschmit, MD
Kristi Kleinschmit, MD, Assistant Professor (Clinical), graduated from Tulane University School of Medicine in New Orleans, Louisiana. She completed a Triple Board internship/residency at the University of Utah School of Medicine, and holds American Board certifications in Pediatrics, Adult Psychiatry and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Dr. Kleinschmit is an attending at the University of Utah Neuropsychiatric Institute providing clinical services for children with mental illness, at the inpatient and partial hospital level. She was awarded a CATCH grant by the American Academy of Pediatrics to assess schools to improve healthcare access and participated in a Healthy People 2010 grant to help provide healthcare referrals within an underserved local high school. She is currently working with other physicians on GATE, "Giving Access To Everyone", which is a pilot program for psychiatric consultations in the primary care setting. As Training Director for the child psychiatry and triple board residencies, Dr. Kleinschmit supervises psychiatry and child psychiatry residents on rotations, and participates in the ongoing education of children's mental health issues to primary care providers in the community. In July 2020, she assumed a new administrative role as Vice Chair of Education in the Psychiatry department.
