The Modern Workplace: Attracting and Retaining Top Talent

It is such an interesting time we are living in. The Unemployment rate as of April was 3.1% (Utah). It is important for us to be watching this as it will give a factual representation to the anecdotal evidence that I am sure our prospects are already seeing. For example, I am sure they have witnessed an employee leaving for a higher paying job or it taking longer times to fill an open job requisition, or of course, having to train someone they hired for a job opening because they just weren't able to find someone externally that could come in with all the skills needed to do the job. The reason for this is because the economist William Dickins said that the full rate of employment is a 5.5% unemployment rate. Since we are now below that mark, it means that there aren't enough qualified people looking for jobs to fill the jobs that are becoming available. LITERALLY THE WAR FOR TALENT. You do not want your employees to be just physically at work; you want them to be at work mentally and whole-heartedly as well. The only way to do so is to engage your employees and make them enthusiastic about their work. In return, your employees will be more enticed to make it a top priority to put their best foot forward. To do so, there will need to be a change in the organization’s culture management.

About Our Presenters

Justin Severson:

Justin focuses on all aspects of payroll, integrated HRIS, benefit enrollment, self-service, applicant tracking, mobile technology and ACA reporting.  Paylocity is a cloud based company that helps employers all around the world with their payroll and HR systems.  My role as a HCM consultant is to meet with clients here in Utah and educate them on what we are seeing in the market.  Paylocity has partnered with Gartner and we have identified three key trends that are transforming the landscape in the payroll/HR world.  Those trends are Technology, Modern Workplace and Analytics. I am able to help companies understand how to develop and engage their employees so they can have that work-life balance. When I’m not helping companies here in Utah I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, playing golf, and cheering on the Utes!

Kenny McKenna:
Kenny has a five year background in the Human Capital Management place and loves helping HR Departments streamline their technology, help with employee engagement, and provide data analytics and insight so payroll can truly be elevated across the backroom and into the boardroom. Kenny moved to Utah in April of 2012 from Rhode Island to pursuit his passion of skiing. He grew up a Patriots fan, but now has a little red in him after his time spent here. Kenny, Justin, and the Paylocity team pride themselves on Paylocity’s 97% client retention rate. The customer always gets what they are looking for!
